Privacy Policy for CheckYourself
Last updated: May 6, 2026
CheckYourself is a macOS application developed by Jamlabs Data Science Inc. ("Jamlabs," "we," "us"). This Privacy Policy describes how data is handled when you use CheckYourself. CheckYourself is designed with privacy as a core principle: the app itself does not transmit any of your information to Jamlabs.
SUMMARY
• The CheckYourself app does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal information to our servers.
• We have no servers — there are no Jamlabs accounts, sign-ins, or telemetry.
• We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising SDKs, or third-party data brokers.
• All your data — bank account information, cheque history, layout preferences — stays on your Mac (or in a folder you choose).
• Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment information.
• Apple may share limited, mostly aggregated data with us through App Store Connect (see below). We never receive your name, email address, payment details, or Apple Account.
DATA CHECKYOURSELF PROCESSES LOCALLY
CheckYourself processes the following data only on your Mac, never on our infrastructure:
• Bank account information you enter (account name, number, routing/transit/institution numbers, address, etc.)
• Cheque records (drafts, printed cheques, voided cheques)
• Layout and alignment preferences for your specific cheque stock
• CSV files you import for batch printing
By default, this data is stored as JSON files in ~/Library/Application Support/CheckYourself/. You can change the storage location to any folder you choose via Settings → Storage. If you choose a folder synced by iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or another cloud-storage service, the file contents will be subject to that service's terms and privacy policy. We do not have access to that folder, regardless of where you put it.
DATA THE APP DOES NOT COLLECT
The CheckYourself app does not transmit, and Jamlabs does not receive through the app:
• Your bank account or cheque information
• Your name, email address, or contact details
• Your IP address or device identifiers
• Usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry sent directly from the app
We do not store this data on our infrastructure because the app does not communicate with any Jamlabs servers.
DATA APPLE MAY SHARE WITH US
When you obtain CheckYourself through the Mac App Store, Apple processes your purchase and provides Jamlabs with limited, mostly aggregated data through App Store Connect. This typically includes:
• Aggregated sales and subscription metrics (counts by country, price tier, refunds), with no information identifying individual users.
• App analytics (number of installs, sessions, retention) only when you have opted in via Privacy Settings on your device to "Share With App Developers."
• Crash reports containing device model, OS version, and stack traces, only when you have opted in to share crash reports with developers. These contain pseudonymous device identifiers, not your name or Apple Account.
• Your public App Store review and rating, if you choose to leave one.
We never receive your name, email address, billing address, payment information, or Apple Account from Apple. We have no way to contact you directly unless you choose to email us first.
This data is governed by Apple's terms and is independent of any data the app itself processes (which, as noted above, never leaves your Mac).
SUBSCRIPTIONS
CheckYourself offers optional auto-renewable monthly and annual subscriptions for premium features. All billing is handled by Apple through the App Store:
• We never see your credit card or payment information.
• Apple processes subscription receipts; CheckYourself uses Apple's StoreKit framework on your device to verify your subscription status.
• Subscription details (price, term, renewal) are presented in the app and on the App Store before purchase.
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period. You can manage or cancel at any time in System Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
For information about how Apple processes your purchase data, see Apple's Privacy Policy at https://www.apple.com/privacy/.
THIRD PARTIES
The only third party involved in the operation of CheckYourself is Apple, in its role of distributing the app via the Mac App Store, processing subscription billing, and providing aggregated analytics and (opt-in) crash reports through App Store Connect. No other third party receives your data through the app.
If you choose to store your data in a cloud-synced folder, that service receives the file contents under its own terms — we do not. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of any cloud-storage service you use, including but not limited to:
• iCloud Drive (Apple) — https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
• Dropbox — https://www.dropbox.com/privacy
• Google Drive — https://policies.google.com/privacy
• OneDrive (Microsoft) — https://privacy.microsoft.com/
DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
Because all data the app processes is stored locally on your device:
• Retention is entirely under your control. The app keeps the data you create until you delete it.
• Deletion is straightforward: delete the data files in your storage folder, or uninstall the app. There are no Jamlabs servers retaining copies.
Data Apple shares with us through App Store Connect (described above) is retained according to Apple's policies and is not stored separately by Jamlabs beyond what App Store Connect itself retains.
If you have shared data with us (for example, by emailing a CSV file as part of a support request), you can request deletion by emailing legal@jamlabs.com. We will respond within 30 days.
YOUR RIGHTS
Because we do not store your personal data on our infrastructure, most data-protection rights (access, correction, deletion, portability) are exercised directly through the app:
• Access — All your data lives in JSON files on your Mac. You can open, copy, or back them up directly.
• Correction — Edit any account, cheque, or other data in the app.
• Deletion — Delete data in the app, delete the data folder, or uninstall the app.
• Portability — Export the cheque register as CSV via Register → Export, or copy the JSON files directly.
For data Apple shares with us via App Store Connect, you can adjust what is shared through your device's Privacy Settings (e.g., turn off "Share With App Developers" for analytics and crash reports).
Residents of the European Economic Area (GDPR)
If you reside in the EEA and provide us with personal data via email (e.g. customer support), you have the right to access, rectify, delete, restrict the processing of, object to the processing of, and request the portability of that data. Contact legal@jamlabs.com to exercise these rights.
Residents of California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal data we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal data. We do not sell or share personal data, and we collect very little personal data even through email-based customer interactions. Contact legal@jamlabs.com for any request.
Residents of other jurisdictions
If your jurisdiction provides additional rights (e.g. PIPEDA in Canada, LGPD in Brazil, UK GDPR), the same legal@jamlabs.com contact applies.
CHILDREN
CheckYourself is a business productivity tool. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest version. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or in App Store update notes.
